PAX Prime 2013: Drone Controller

London Music News

The Drone from Evolution Controllers is one of those unexpected gems we found while wandering the expo halls at PAX Prime 2013. We almost didn’t stop, but the shiny little Bluetooth devices caught our eye and felt even better in our hands.

We immediately wanted to buy one but held off – and we’re glad we waited. Because now they’re even cheaper: just $59 instead of about $72 with the 10% PAX discount. The catch? Their creators launched a Kickstarter to fund the initial production run. The good news is that it’s almost fully funded and will very likely make its $30K goal; it’s already at nearly $22,000 with 26 days to go.

The other possible gotcha is lack of support for the iOS7 native controller standard. We hope this will get addressed, but in the meantime it works with most devices including PC, Mac, and even Ouya plus iOS iCade-compatble titles and Droid including Kindle Fire.
