THe Girl in the Trunk

Sunrise Films and Vertigo Releasing have officially acquired North American and United Kingdom distribution rights to the Danish horror-thriller ‘The Girl in the Trunk’ which will be released on digital in both territories on May 28th.

Sunrise Films will be handling the North American release.

“We were enthralled from the first moments of The Girl In The Trunk which grabs you straight away with its tense and terrifying premise that could be straight out of a True Crime series,” Vertigo Releasing’s head of US and international distribution Andrew Nerger said, according to Deadline. “As with all the best-contained thrillers like Buried or Phone Booth – this is a gripping watch that we can’t wait for audiences to discover.”

“We are all excited by giving The Girl In The Trunk a home with Vertigo Releasing & Sunrise Films, we are confident this is the right home for the film and they will do well with it” Sanne Arlø of Reinvent International Sales said.

According to the official synopsis: “A woman finds herself kidnapped and entrapped in the enclosed space of a speeding car’s trunk, wearing her brand-new wedding dress, and with her phone the only available tool. The situation deteriorates gradually as a failed escape attempt costs the life of an innocent bystander. Discovering that the kidnapper has a fondness for poisonous wildlife also makes for no help at all. And when she finally manages to get the PIN to the phone, we learn that she has in fact escaped her own wedding as well as a future in her controlling fathers employ. With the clock ticking towards a slow death from heat exhaustion in the Texas desert, a psychotic kidnapper at the wheel, and little help coming from her family, Amanda is forced to make her own luck in the end. A dangerous game of questions and deadly consequences – to be played over the phone with the mysterious kidnapper – seems the only way to maybe discover his true identity, getting help or simply fighting her painful way towards a fleeting chance of escape.”
