Get a load of YUME’s new EP

We’ve come across so much good music recently. 2014 has been a great year so far — and it just keeps getting better. Our new favourite: YUME. We don’t know a great deal about YUME, other than that he’s from New Jersey and he makes beats. He’s also part of a collective(s), STE/95SOUND. Whatever though, we’ll find out some more about him when the time is right. For now, he’s got a new EP out that is begging for your attention.

The Akumu EP is four expertly crafted lullabies that go straight for the heart. The first track, Alone, is an ambient masterpiece. It begins as a mystery, drawing you in with what sounds like a violin being plucked in the deepest, darkest cave you can imagine, before a soothing, majestic bassline turns the direction of the tune on a dime and leads into a stunning female vocal that defies you not to sit up and look around you, dying to tell someone about it.

Then as if on cue come the the hi-hat, the clap and the kick drum, leaving you in awe. It has shades of Moby about it, maybe even a little Future Sound of London. It’s a short track, only 3:27 long, but we are very much in love with it. This is, however, just one part of a very impressive EP. November is unashamedly reminiscent of Final Fantasy, Daydream is a respite from the emotional rollercoaster, and Why is like that moment on a spring morning when the sun first warms the grass and begins to evaporate the dew.

If you can’t tell, we’re huge fans of this EP — and we aren’t the only ones. Owsey is also a fan. You can go download it from YUME’s Bandcamp now. While you’re at it, there’s another release there, an album called 1995, that’s also worth picking up.
